UNIVERSITY OF ABERDEEN

The University of Aberdeen, founded in 1495 by Bishop William Elphinstone, is Scotland’s third-oldest university and the fifth oldest in the UK. Established with papal approval as King’s College, it aimed to bring higher learning and clergy education to northern Scotland, and today continues to be ‘open to all and dedicated to the pursuit of truth in the service of others’. The Old Aberdeen campus is the historic heart of the University of Aberdeen, located in a picturesque area characterised by cobbled streets, and granite architecture. Centered around the iconic King’s College, with its distinctive crown tower dating back to the 15th century, the campus includes both medieval architecture and modern facilities.

SCIENCE TEACHING HUB

The state-of-the-art Science Teaching Hub will be the main social space of the conference, providing registration, catering, posters and networking space.

The Science Teaching Hub opened in early 2022 next to The Sir Duncan Rice Library on the corner of Bedford Road and St Machar Drive. The building has been designed around the provision of specialist teaching, training and learning for students across a number of disciplines including chemistry, medical sciences, biological sciences and geosciences. 

FRASER NOBLE BUILDING

The Fraser Noble Building is on the Library plaza opposite the Meston building and houses the School of Engineering and the Department of Mathematics. The building will host the main conference proceedings, including Keynote Talks.

The building was constructed in 1963 to house the Natural Philosophy department. Later known as the Physics Building, it was extensively refurbished and renamed in November 1988 in recognition of the valuable services to the University of Sir Fraser Noble MBE, MA, LLD, FRSE, the University's Principal and Vice Chancellor from 1976-1981.

HOW TO GET THERE


  • The campus is an approximate 25 minute walk from Aberdeen city centre
  • If travelling by bus, a number of services stop near campus:
  1. Numbers 1, 1A and 1B travel along Union Street and King Street and pass the university. Alight just after the King's playing fields
  2. Number 19, from Broad Street, passes to the west of the University. Alight at the Sir Duncan Rice Library
  3. Number 20, from Guild Street, links the city centre with the Old Aberdeen campus and the Hillhead Halls of Residence. The bus stops on the High Street, right at the heart of campus
