It is our pleasure to announce that the 18th European Conference on Liquid Crystals (ECLC) takes place in June 13th-18^th 2027 at the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. The conference will bring together world-leading expertise across chemistry, engineering, medicine and medical sciences in the field of liquid crystals. In particular we hope to see the participation of young scientists and aim to make our conference a forum for new and current PhD students to present their doctoral work in a stimulating and supportive environment, together with well-experienced researchers and colleagues from industry.

Aberdeen has had a strong commitment to Soft Matter research for over 80 years: a leading centre in polymer science and offshore materials chemistry, and more recently an active hub for liquid crystal synthesis and characterisation at the forefront of research into complex new phases of matter.

Aberdeen is known as the Granite City, or more romantically, the Silver City as its building sparkle in the sun. It is the 3rd largest city in Scotland. The city has been widely known in recent decades for the oil and gas industry but is now at the forefront of the UK's net zero strategy and the energy transition. Our conference venue is at the ancient University of Aberdeen, whose campus blends medieval heritage with modern architecture. At 531 years old it is the UK's fifth oldest university.
